Accessories--Yes,
the Little Things Really Do Matter
by Katie Main
(4/14/05) You've got the groom, you've got the gown...now my
goodness, what great jewelry and accessories are you going to
wear on your big day?
As the old saying goes, "God is in the details" and
that isnt any truer than when planning a wedding. So much
time and effort goes into the selection of invitations, food,
cake, music and more that by the time you get around to selecting
your accessories, the temptation could be to say, "Forget
it. My ring is enough!" But, that is one temptation you will
want to resist. Accessories are like the beautiful bow on a present.
Without the bow it's a box wrapped in paper but with it, the box
becomes a decorative work of art that one cant wait to unwrap.
So how do you decide what accessories you want to compliment
your gown? First, take a look at your dress. Did you choose a
princess style, modern, Elizabethan, formal or informal dress?
As a rule of thumb, the more ornate and decorative your gown,
the less jewelry or accessories you will want to addwhich
isnt to say that you wont want to accessorize at alljust
remember, that as in most things, less really is more. Next decide
what part of your body you want to highlight. Are your neck and
shoulders exposed allowing for a chocker or necklace? Will your
hair be pulled back to showcase beautiful drop earring? Or will
your hair be cascading down, allowing for a delicate tiara to
be placed atop your head. Whatever you decide, do a trial run
of the accessory before your big day. This is not the time to
discover that the beautiful chandelier earrings youve chosen
pull on your ear to the point of pain, or that the "queen
for a day" tiara feels more like a vice grip on your head.
Lastly, youll want to choose a beautiful handbag. Once
again, keep in mind the style of your gown when selecting your
purse. And remember most bridal bags can be dyed, so if you fall
in love with a style but dont see it in a shade that matches
your wedding colors, inquire whether it can be dyed to match your
specifications. The key to most bridal purses is to choose something
on the small to medium sizethis is one day you can get away
without carrying a cell phone, car keys, or address book. All
you need is a purse that is large enough to carry a few tissues
(handy for when the day becomes overwhelming happy) and a lipstick
and compact to freshen up before important wedding day photos.
Many happy wishes on your big day!

Ankle Bracelets: Accessories
to Pamper and Adorn Your Feet
by Sam Serio
(8/1/05) Feet are among the most the most beautiful parts of
a woman's body. This fact is often overshadowed by modern media,
which highlights women's faces and torsos, and little else. Yet
throughout history, the delicate shape of women's feet have been
paid great respect and attention, as proven by classical literary
works by D.H. Lawrence and Lord Byron, to name only a few. In
"Double Indemnity," the hero Walter is so entranced
by the ankle bracelet worn by a woman named Phyllis, that he mentions
it several times in the course of the movie.
In ancient China, it was such a big deal that women had small,
delicate "moon-shaped" feet (that is, with deep insteps)
that an entire custom dedicated to foot-binding was developed.
This was extremely painful for the women, but the standards for
lovely feet back then helped greatly in setting standards of overall
attractiveness; women with small feet were considered noble and
aristocratic.
Nowadays we have done away with painful practices, knowing
that women's feet are beautiful naturally. The sensuous instep
and curve of the ankles call for accentuating jewelry. This is
part of why ankle bracelets are increasingly in demand.
Ankle bracelets -- "anklets," for short -- are lightweight
and fancy decorations for the feet. Many come with tiny charms,
which usually include variants of a favorite symbol, like cats,
hearts, stars, and bells -- the variety is endless. Bracelets
worn on the feet are in fact very similar in make to bracelets
worn on the wrists, which is why for many, bracelets and anklets
are interchangeable.
For the most part, ankle bracelets are casual accessories:
they are best worn on an ordinary day out having fun. Multicolored
anklets woven from fibers or threads look great with casual sandals
or flip-flops. However, ankle bracelets made of fine-spun gold
and silver make a beautiful tandem with fashion shoes, and look
great for formal events.

Accessories: What You Need to Know
by Melissa Burton
(2/17/06) Wedding accessories are an important part of every
wedding and care should be taken to make the right choices when
it comes to them. Here is a brief guide that will give you some
things to consider.
Wedding veils Would a wedding be complete without a wedding
veil? Of course youve probably seen weddings where brides
where gowns without veils but it sure dont look much like
a wedding. A wedding veil, along with the ring and cord, is one
wedding accessory that symbolizes the wedding itself. In picking
out a wedding veil make sure that it will suit your wedding gown
and the theme of your wedding. Traditional veils are very formal
and usually measure around three and a half yards long. Veils
nowadays come in various lengths. There is even a shoulder length
flyaway type that is preferred by many modern brides.
Shoes & stockings
Shoes and stockings are a crucial element to your overall look
on your wedding day. All girls know how difficult it is to find
a shoe that will complement attire. What more if you are trying
to look for a pair that would match your wedding gown. Try to
look for shoes made of velvet, satin and silk as these materials
provide a formal and delicate touch to any event. You can also
choose shoes with embellishment like beads, sequins, pearls or
crystals. Just make sure that the shoes you will buy is comfortable
on your feet because you will ear them on probably the most important
event of your life.
Jewelry
Aside from the wedding band and wedding ring, you should also
take time to consider the other jewelry you will ear like necklace,
earrings and bracelet. Jewelry should always compliment a dress
and not be the star of the evening. So make sure that the jewelry
you will wear would be noticeable enough to get attention but
not too loud as to over shadow your wedding gown. Consider wearing
family heirlooms because they are proven to be an ideal wedding
accessory. Of course, diamonds and pearls would also be very nice.
Headpieces
Headpieces such as combs, headbands, back pieces and Juliet
caps are generally used to hold the wedding veil in place. Often,
headpieces are decorated with beads, pearls, crystals or flowers
to make them look attractive. It seems like a small detail but
a headpiece can spell the difference between a boring wedding
attire and an exciting one. Actually, a beautiful headpiece can
even replace a veil altogether. Examples of headpieces that can
stand alone are tiaras, crowns, half-crowns, wreaths and bun wraps.
Gloves
Gloves make great accessories especially if you are wearing
a strapless or sleeveless gown. The general rule is that the shorter
the sleeve the longer the glove should be. Gloves simply provide
an air of sophistication to any outfit.
Handbags
Of course you shouldnt be carrying a bag with you during
the wedding ceremony or even during the reception. But still it
would be nice to have a small purse where all the things you will
need, particularly make up for touch ups, would be contained.
It doesnt have to be a big shoulder bag. Clutches will work
just fine.
As they say, God is in the details. And in wedding the little
details provided by wedding accessories can make all the difference.
Thats is why it is very important to give as much attention
to the wedding accessories you will wear or carry on your wedding
day as you would to your wedding gown.

Lance Armstrong Bracelets:
Fashion Accessories for a Worthy Cause
by Sam Serio
(7/22/05) Lance Armstrong bracelets, the yellow rubber wrist
bands inscribed with the motto LiveStrong, are tangible parts
of champion American cyclist Lance Armstrongs legacy. Diagnosed
with testicular cancer on October 2, 1996, Armstrong battled with
the disease and didnt let it get in the way of his will
to wear the yellow jersey once again to compete in the Tour de
France cycling tournament. In partnership with sports apparel
firm Nike, he started selling his Lance Armstrong bracelets for
a dollar apiece, with the profits going to the Lance Armstrong
Foundation to fund cancer research.
It is not so surprising to find that the Lance Armstrong bracelets
have become a cultural phenomenon. Aside from being very affordable,
people feel they are contributing to a worthy cause by buying
and wearing the yellow bracelets. Add this to the fact that the
wrist band is not difficult to wear as a fashion accessory. It
goes along well with almost any attire: from your regular jeans-and-shirt
attire to preppy to sports outfits. School children and teenagers
think it is hip to be seen wearing one, and it doesnt make
a huge dent in their allowance to buy it. Professional athletes
have been seen wearing them at sports events. Even corporate executives
in power suits have taken to wearing these Lance Armstrong bracelets.
Made from rubber, it is similar to other cause-related bracelets
that have emerged over the past years, such as those for breast
cancer and diabetes. Many Americans collect these wrist bands,
including the Lance Armstrong bracelets, because aside from being
fashion-friendly and easy to wear, they have philanthropic and
social significance.
Why yellow? This color is especially significant to Lance Armstrong.
Aside from imparting feelings of warmth and optimism, yellow is
the color of the jersey that the leading Tour de France cyclist
is given to wear, and which he has worn to victory numerous times.
The yellow Lance Armstrong bracelets are his standard bearers
in his fight against cancer, and they bear witness to the things
that have given his life new meaning.
Since ancient times, women and men have worn one form of jewelry
or another as a way of expressing some sentiment, feeling or as
a symbol. The Lance Armstrong 'Live Strong' bracelet is a modern
version of an age old tradition; jewelry as a symbol of hope,
courage and support of a worthy cause.
